Revalidação da Carta de Condução

Estes procedimentos visam tratar dos vários serviços relacionados com a Carta de Condução.

Como e quando fazer

Realizar o serviço numa loja RIAC

O que preciso

    • Modelo 1-IMTT;
    • Original da carta de condução;
    • Apresentação do Bilhete de Identidade + Contribuinte, ou Cartão de Cidadão (acompanhado de comprovativo de renovação quando caducado), ou Fotocópia do Título de Residência.
    • Relatório Médico comprovativo da aptidão física e mental para o exercício da condução de veículos a motor (quando aplicável, Grupo II).
    • Atestado Médico (emissão e transmissão eletrónica, tendo a validade de 6 meses contados da data da sua emissão).

Quando fazer

    A revalidação da carta de condução deve ser efectuada durante os 6 meses que antecedem o dia em que completam as idades obrigatórias, ou seja, a carta de condução é válida até à véspera do aniversário.

    Por outro lado, após a carta de condução ter passado de validade, é possível proceder à sua revalidação até dois anos depois, ou seja, até à véspera do aniversário do condutor. Após dois anos sem ter feito a revalidação, o título de condução caduca, pelo que só poderá obter novo título de condução após aprovação em exame (exame especial – prova prática).

Renewal Deadlines

With the entry into force of Decree-Law No. 40/2016, dated July 29, the validity periods of driving licenses (Driver’s Licenses and Permits) are subject to one of the three situations below:

  1. Licenses whose first issuance* occurred on or after July 30, 2016 (inclusive).
  2. Licenses whose first issuance* occurred between January 2, 2013, and July 29, 2016 (inclusive).
  3. Licenses whose first issuance* occurred before January 2, 2013.

* The first issuance refers to the date the driver’s license was obtained for the first time. Check the back of the driver’s license/permit for the first issuance date of the categories.

Other Changes to Driving Licenses

Drivers of categories AM, A1, A2, A, B1, B, and BE, as well as holders of driving permits who obtained their licenses for the first time at the age of 58 or older, are exempt from renewing their licenses at the age of 60.

Driver Groups

Group 1
Candidates or drivers of vehicles in categories AM, A1, A2, A, B1, B, and BE (motorcycles and light vehicles), mopeds, and agricultural tractors.

Drivers who obtained their licenses for the first time at the age of 58 or older must renew their licenses for the first time at the age of 65.

Group 2
Candidates or drivers of vehicles in categories C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D, and DE (heavy goods and passenger vehicles), as well as drivers of vehicles in categories B and BE (light vehicles and light vehicles with trailers) who operate ambulances, firefighting vehicles, patient transport vehicles, school transport vehicles, collective child transport vehicles, and rental passenger cars.

The validity of licenses for categories D1, D1E, D, and DE, as well as for category CE with a maximum authorized mass exceeding 20,000 kg, expires when the holder reaches the age of 67.

Exceptions

If the driver still holds an old Identity Card and Driver’s License model where it is not possible to capture digital photos and signatures or if they do not consent to the use of existing data from the Citizen Card and/or the IMT’s computer system, these processes must be handled exclusively at DSVTT counters.
