Regional Waste Information System
The Azores are recognized for their environmental quality and the richness of their natural heritage. The Region is committed to protecting and enhancing this unique resource by investing in sustainability and promoting a circular economy.
RIAC provides assistance to entities required to enroll and register in the Regional Waste Information System (SRIR), ensuring they meet legal requirements. The submission of the waste map in the SRIR is essential for environmental authorities to monitor, plan, and guarantee an effective transition to a circular economy.
Registration in the Regional Waste Information System (SRIR) is mandatory for:
- Producers of hazardous or hospital waste, or those exceeding daily urban waste production limits (≥1100L or ≥250Kg), as well as non-urban waste producers employing 6 or more workers;
- Waste operators and managers, entities responsible for management systems, and operators involved in the transport, storage, sorting, recovery, disposal of waste, or soil decontamination;
- Regulated and public sector entities, including operators active in the waste market or those importing waste to the Azores, entities subject to environmental licensing, and Regional and Local Administration departments.
Enrollment can be completed at any time, but the registration map is annual and must be submitted by the end of February of the following year.
The RIAC Shops network provides the necessary support for enrollment and registration submission to ensure compliance with these obligations in a simple and informed manner.
The SRIR platform is managed by the Regional Directorate for the Environment and Climate Action of the Azores.
