Book: Pilgrims of São Miguel Arcanjo – 500 Years of History
A historical and spiritual journey depicting the religious manifestation of the Lenten pilgrimages, by Carlos Vieira.
The author, born in 1980 in the parish of São Miguel, in the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo, experienced his first Lenten pilgrimage in 2001. He is currently the Master of the Pilgrims' Group of the Parish of São Miguel Arcanjo.
His first work, "Diary of a Pilgrimage," was published in 2005.
In 2022, he wrote "Pilgrims of São Miguel Arcanjo – 500 Years of History."
"More than theories about pilgrimages, the author offers us his experience and testimony of what it means to be a pilgrim, in an extended process of pre-pilgrimage, the pilgrimage itself, and post-pilgrimage, just like the entire life of a Christian pilgrim until reaching the eternal city. Behind the pilgrimages, we find virtues and values that are important to persevere, as they constitute an invaluable legacy of faith, hope, and charity that our ancestors experienced and, through tradition, more practical than theoretical, have passed on to current generations." - Canon Hélder Fonseca Mendes
